All options are being looked by the Trudeau Government to fulfill its promise of resettling 25 thousand Syrians in Canada by the end of the year.
Rev. Robert Harris, a member of the Ecumenical Council of pastors in the area, is hoping some of the Syrian families are sponsored by locals and settle in Saint John.
It might be too much of a burden to have just one family sponsoring another. Rev. Harris says it would be better to have groups of 20 to 25 people getting together to sponsor one family. It means providing for them and being there for them 24/7 for a year, making sure their children go to school and their parents learn English but Rev. Harris says the experience would be a blessing for those who do get personally involved.
