A mere 11 votes was enough to prevent the merger of Sussex and Sussex Corner.
The voters of Sussex overwhelmingly approved. 838 voting in favour and 87 against. In Sussex Corner, 304 voted yes but 315 were against and both places had to vote in favour for the merger to take place.
The mayors, Stephen Gillies of Sussex Corner and Marc Thorne in Sussex had spoken in favour of the merger.
