Saint John proposing a capital budget of just over $21 million dollars for 2016.
Finance Commissioner Kevin Fudge says just under $10 million will come from other sources, leaving the city investing roughly $11 million.
Fudge says the goal is to have better roads, drainage, improve recreation, better public spaces and support our protective services.
The budget includes $4.6 million for asphalt , curb, sidewalks and street reconstruction, which is a 10 percent increase compared to last year.
Roughly $1.5 million will come from the gas tax fund program, leaving the city responsible for $3.5 million in road repairs.
Fudge says a new city bus is needed, which will cost $475,000
He says the city also plans on purchasing a new fire engine and spending $1.2 million to partially fund a new emergency trunk radio system for police and firefighters.
$800,000 being set aside for upgrades to sports fields and recreational facilities, which will include new fencing at Memorial Field.
Common Council will continue to discuss the budget before it becomes official.
