Veterans and serving members of the military and the RCMP were honoured at a special dinner last night.
The Lest We Forget – N’Oublions Jamais dinner put on by Atlantic Maple Leaf is a fundraiser for organizations that support those who protect us at home and abroad.
Commodore Mark B. Watson is the Director General of Morale and Welfare Services. He says these events reconnect New Brunswickers with their history, “They also raise funds for a variety of military related charities, or overseeing the various charities that are run by the military for the military.”
He notes, events like this show a resurgence in pride that Canadians feel for their military, “There’s a huge connection with the military that was unseen 20 years ago, we were sort of forgotten. These days people recognize the contribution that the Canadian Forces makes. The fact is , we have have people that are proud to be a part of the military.”
Almost 600 people attended last night’s dinner with a keynote speech from Ambassador to Ireland Kevin Vickers.
The funds raised support many groups, including the RCMP Moncton Fallen Members Fund, and the Military Family Fund.
