An obstruction of justice charge laid against Saint John lawyer Rod Gillis has been dropped.
Gillis was to stand trial in Moncton but the charge was dropped when the prosecution told the court it would not be presenting any new evidence.
Gillis was accused of attempting to stop a witness from testifying against former Liberal M-L-A Frank Branch and was charged with obstruction of justice. He was found guilty in 2013 and sentenced to 22 months in jail.
The New Brunswick Court of Appeal overturned the conviction after Gillis appealed and a new trial was ordered
