The neonatal intensive care unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, which sees over 500 babies admitted each year, received a cash injection of $30,000 along with a donation of preemie clothes all from Canaport LNG.
Sue Koval is the charge nurse for the neonatal ICU and says they are in desperate need of new isolettes, which are used as incubators for premature infants, where the tops go up and the sides come down which gives allows for a lot of access to the baby.
Koval says one of the thing they’re trying to pay for right now is a new transport isolette because the most recent one they have was bought in 1995. She says it would be nice to be able to have a transport isolette that has IV equipment on it along with ventilator support that will allow them to transport a baby to the IWK.
In June of 2012 Canaport LNG donated $65,000 to the neonatal unit to buy new equipment.
