Premier Brian Gallant is being urged to stay the course on climate change by the provincial Conservatives as the Premiers meet with Prime Minister Trudeau. By staying the course, interim Conservative leader Bruce Fitch means not imposing a carbon tax.
Catherine Abreu of the Ecology Action Centre maintains carbon pricing has not killed jobs, pointing to studies released by reputable economists as well as what’s been happening in B-C and California.
Fitch argues New Brunswick has led the way among all provinces since 2010 with a reduction of 16 per cent in greenhouse gas emissions and 26 per cent since 2000 without the imposition of a carbon tax. He claims the last thing New Brunswickers need now is another tax.
