Campbellton residents are being forced to deal once again with the loss of two brothers killed by a python in 2013.
A preliminary hearing is ongoing for Jean Claude Savoie, .who is charged with criminal negligence causing death.
Six year old Connor and 4 year old Noah Barthe were in an apartment above an exotic pet store that Savoie owned at the time of their death.
Deputy Mayor Ian Comeau says this has been difficult for both families, “Anger towards the snake, than towards the snake. It was a misfortune. I think there are some people who wants something to happen, while others say he has suffered enough.”
Comeau says the inquiry means reliving this tragedy over again, “With pictures in the media and of the business, it sure brings back old memories.”
He says there have been some requests from residents to have the building where the exotic pet store was torn down, but Comeau says, “Nothing has come to City hall or City Council. If it does, we will deal with it at that time.”
The inquiry this week will determine whether there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.
