“This is devastating”………That’s the reaction of Cecille Cassista, Executive-Director of the New Brunswick Coalition for Seniors to word the VON has ceased operations in New Brunswick. Cassista says a lot of seniors have been left high and dry wondering where they’re going to turn for care.
Cassista can see a lot of seniors flooding the offices of their family doctors or showing up at the hospital for care. She calls the VON closure another symptom of a healthcare system that’s broken down.
Cassista telling us she has been approached by Horizon Health for ideas on how to reduce the number of seniors in hospital who should be elsewhere. The number is estimated at 450, costing a thousand dollars a day.
