Some shocking statistics about seatbelt use in the province.
RCMP say since January, there have been 41 fatal collisions in the province, with 45 people killed. Eleven of those fatalities were due to the person not wearing a seatbelt.
Sergeant Andre Pepin says we need to continue driving home the message that seatbelts save lives and parents have to set an example, “If you tell your kids to wear their seatbelt, but you’re not wearing it yourself when you start driving, then they are probably going to be doing the same thing.”
The car crash victims who were not wearing seatbelts ranged in age from 16 to 62, both men and women.
Pepin says this is proof that the message to wear a seatbelt needs to be stressed to motorists of all ages.
