A new poll of more than a thousand people in Quebec finds nearly six in ten oppose the proposed Energy East pipeline. It was only a year ago that 70 per cent were in favour. Now, 57 per cent disagree with the construction of the pipeline and 58 per cent want to review to end.
Provincial Energy Minister Donald Arsenault argues Energy East and taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are not incompatible. Arsenault adds there is more emphasis now on Saint John in light of the decision by Trans Canada not to build a terminal in Quebec.
He also is applauding Alberta for its proposed carbon tax, calling it a bold move.
Arsenault says he recently met with the federal government and emphasised how important the Energy East pipeline project is to New Brunswick.
