Fire crews spent the morning fighting a large structure fire which has destroyed a building that housed Pizza Delight and the Red Brick Pub on Railway Crescent in Hampton.
The call came in just before 1am.
Deputy Chief of the Hampton Fire Department, Mike Raeburn, tells CHSJ News more than 50 firefighters battled this blaze.
He tells us crews from Nauwigewauk, Upham, K.V., Long Reach and Kingston helped the Hampton volunteer fire crews fight this fire.
Raeburn says when they arrived on scene the fire was concentrated in the dining area of the Pizza Delight.
He says firefighters began attacking it and when it reached the second floor they decided to a evacuate the building.
The top floor of the destroyed building included apartments and a pregnant woman living there managed to get out safely.
The Wayside apartments across the street were evacuated at 3am and the building hosed down but there’s still smoke damage.
Fire investigators are looking into the casue of this fire.
The building had to be demolished because of its location on a thoroughfare in the town they couldn’t risk parts of it coming down and possibly hurting someone.
