For most people, influenza only causes a few days of fever, cough and generally feeling unwell.
However, for others, the highly contagious respiratory disease can lead to hospitalization or even death.
That’s according to coalition group Immunize Canada.
Chairperson Dr. Shelley McNeil says there are many groups at risk, including children under 5 years old, seniors over 65, as well as people with chronic illnessess like asthma, diabetes or heart disease.
She says that makes flu prevention vital for those people who are generally healthy, because they can pass along the illness to others more suspectible.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends all Canadians six months of age and older get the seasonal influenza vaccine.
