The second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland hearing from the second witness to be called by the defence, Geoffrey Fellows from England, who was declared an expert in the forensic analysis of computers and related electronic devices including the recovery and interpretation of electronic data.
Fellows says that the last human usage on Richard Oland’s main computer system in his office at 52 Canterbury Street in uptown Saint John was at 5:39pm on July 6, 2011. That was the opening of a yachting website – specifically the Southern Ocean Racing Conference website.
Senior technological crime forensic analyst with the RCMP, and Crown witness, Payman Hakimian has also testified that user activity on this computer stopped at 5:39pm on July 6, 2011.
In the interview between Constable Stephen Davidson and Dennis Oland on July 7, 2011, Dennis says he went to his father’s office twice. The first time was around 5:15pm and he didn’t actually go in that time, and the second time around 5:30pm. He says they talked about geneology and left at “6:30-ish”. Richard Oland’s bludgeoned body was discovered face down in a pool of blood on July 7, 2011.
The trial has heard that Richard’s son, Dennis Oland, is going to testify at the murder trial. The trial adjourning early on day 44 due to a misunderstanding. The trial resumes on Tuesday morning at 9:30am at the Saint John Law Courts.
