Governor General David Johnston is calling on us to rise to the challenge of welcoming 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada, saying it’s the right thing to do.
15 hundred of the refugees are coming to New Brunswick, according to Mayor Mel Norton. How many of them will be arriving in Saint John hasn’t been identified.
The Governor-General is hosting a forum at Rideau Hall in Ottawa to smooth the resettlement. Immigration Minister John McCallum says the federal government is ready to spend 700 million dollars to do what’s right but even with that amount of money, McCallum says help will be needed in finding the refugees housing as well as jobs.
Norton is tweeting the biggest challenges will be to keep Canadians on board and securing adequate housing for the refugees.
