Losing your home or your job anytime of the year would be awfu but it worse near the Holidays but caring and generous Hamptonians are rushing to the rescue of their own.
Several efforts are underway to assist the 16 people impacted by last week’s fire at the Pizza Delight/Red Brick Pub building.
13 of those people worked in the businesses and three adults including a pregnant woman lived in an apartment in the building that burned to the ground.
Christal Smith was laid off near the holidays last year so she can relate to the difficult situation these people are in.
Smith received help in the form of gift cards that made a big difference.
She says she knows how long the waiting period is for employment insurance to kick in over the holidays so she decided to pay it forward.
An account has been set up by Smith and Dave Wolpin of Kredl’s at the Bayview Credit Union in Hampton. She tell us they were Facebook friends and met in person for the first time to open this account yesterday.
All donations will be turned in grocery and gas gift cards closer to Christmas for the 16 victims of the fire.
