The defence closing its case in Dennis Oland’s second-degree murder trial marking the end of the trial’s evidence phase.
Justice Jack Walsh telling the jurors they won’t be needed until December 14 for closing arguments from the defence and the Crown, saying that between the lawyers and himself there’s a lot of work to do before they can give the case over, at which time they will be sequestered. The earliest that will happen will be December 16, and Justice Walsh warning jurors it will be a mentally exhausting time for them and will be emotionally draining.
Walsh suggests if they have any holiday preparations to do, to do them during their week off.
Defence lawyer Gary Miller had said in his opening statement that Dennis Oland’s wife, mother, sister, uncle and a family friend would testify at the trial however that did not happen.
This on day 47 of the trial which began on September 16. 65 days have been set aside for the trial.
