Today marks the 26th anniversary of the massacre of 14 young women at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal.
At least in part of that horrific event, December 6th is a National Day of Remebrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Shanny Doucet is the Vice President responsible for Women’s Issues for the New Brunswick Federation of Labour.
“We did make progress, and we continue to try to make progress by improving the health and safety in the workplaces,” says Doucet.
She adds violence against women is the world’s largest and most persistent human rights violation.
“Women and girls in Canada still face violence in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities every single day so December 6th is a day to remember those women and girls,” says Doucet.
Doucet says in Riverview there is a candlelight vigil at 6:30 in Caseley park in honour of those women who have been killed, and in support of their families.
