A group is encouraging New Brunswickers to think about how we access and grow our food.
Aaron Shantz is the Community Coordinator with the “Our Food Southeast New Brunswick Project.”
He says there are many things we need to protect and improve around our food system and policymakers need guidelines.
Shantz adds we need local farmers for the long term sustainability of our food system.
“What’s happening right now in our food system, fresh and nutritious food is not something that’s necessarily accessible to people living on a low income or on social assistance,” says Shantz.
He says many local farmers don’t have access to our food markets here, with southeastern New Brunswick relying 95% on imported food.
