Dairy farmers in the province aren’t happy about losing 3 and a quarter percent of their market because of the Trans Pacific trade deal. Paul Gaunce chairs Dairy Farmers of New Brunswick and he believes the Trudeau Government will go along with it.
Gaunce says, on the other hand, growth in the demand for butter over the last few years has been phenomenal. He says people are moving away from margarine back to butter with word that doctors and nutritionists are now saying butter is healthy for you.
To put it in perspective, Gaunce says 3 and one quarter per cent of the Canadian markets amounts to 25 per cent of the milk in the Maritimes.
