Interim Provincial Conservative leader Bruce Fitch asking Health Minister Victor Boudreau during question period in the Legislature why he fired Dr. Eilish Cleary from her position as Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Boudreau replying by saying that Fitch should know that all departments fall under the civil service act and that it’s very clear that all HR matters fall under the responsibility of the Deputy Minister of that department. Boudreau says ministers don’t hire and fire people.
Boudreau says they can say the decision is not politically motivated and doesn’t affect the ongoing work or the indepandance of the office.
Fitch then asking if Boudreau will be bringing in legislation so that Dr. Cleary won’t be able to sue for wrongful dismissal or receive a severance package with Boudreau saying Fitch is asking him to talk about HR issues on the floor of the legislatur eand he knows very well that’s not appropriate.
