After a false start, District Education Council in Anglophone South passing a new policy for schools to protect the LGBTQ community.
One DEC member suggested tabling the discussion until January and the vote on a motion to do that ended in a tie and a motion for a new policy passed.
We asked DEC Chair Rob Fowler why some DEC members disagreed with a new policy.
In some cases some felt they need more time to absorb it or that it would mean more work for staff and he says the work has been done and they are just putting the wrapping around it.
Fowler says everyone fully supports the LGBTQ community but some didn’t like the methodology of adding a seperate policy.
