17 month old Zaccari is in need of a kidney transplant, and has spent most of his life at IWK hospital.
His mom is hoping a petition might help change the process for organ donors.
Ashley Barnaby has launched an online petition called “Presumed Consent.” Instead of donors having to opt into the registry, it would be set up so they had to opt out instead.
Ashley says that would create more chances for more organs to be donated.
She hopes to have 2500 signatures. Her plan is to present the petition to a local MP, with the hopes it will be passed on to Prime Minister Trudeau.
Zaccari has spent most of his life at the IWK in Halifax, and undergoes dialysis treatment every night.
