New Brunswickers are opening up their hearts to ensure the Syrian refugees have what they need to start a new life in Canada.
A province wide clothing drive was held on Saturday and over 1,300 bags of clothing were received in Fredericton, over 400 in Saint John and over 1,000 in Moncton.
Managing Director of the New Brunswick Multicultural Council Alex LeBlanc says there is still much work to be done before the refugees arrive in the New year.
“There’ll be other ways we’ll be looking for assistance from the public, we need volunteers, people to help take these newcomers out to the community, whether it’s to recreation events or community events, essentially to welcome them to our communities,” says LeBlanc.
LeBlanc says there will be other drives held in the New Year but no dates have been firmed up just yet.
