Auditor General Kim MacPherson is critical of the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation for questionable decisions such as participating in the Atlantic Lottery Corporation’s Geonomics investment and knowingly allowing overpayment errors to several First Nations to continue.
The report reveals a loss of about $4.3 million from the Geonomics investment.
Also, the auditor general has discovered between 2002 and July 2015, overpayments to seven First Nations totalled $14 million due to Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) net profit calculation errors. The calculation errors were discovered in 2013 but still were not corrected as of October 2015.
There were more than 300 unauthorized VLTs operating throughout the province which cost the government much needed revenue.
