The Canadian Union of Public Employees not impressed with the Strategic Program Review that was recently released by the government.
CUPE Vice-president Odette Robichaud says nobody wants to see hospitals closing or classroom sizes increasing.
Robichaud says public consultations were held roughly a year ago and none of the comments, recommendations or suggestions by CUPE were included in the Strategic Program Review.
She says the measures being suggested by the government will result in the destruction of our society.
The review includes the closure of hospitals, increasing the size of classrooms, laying off education assistants and privatizing custodial services.
The government projects savings between $50-70 million dollars annually by increasing classroom numbers by four.
Union leaders representing hospitals, schools, transportation workers and other employees held a news conference in Fredericton calling for more clarification from the government.
