A festive atmosphere at the grand opening of the upgraded Rothesay Common with hot chocolate, skating, Christmas tunes and more.
Mayor Bill Bishop tells us the project includes the completion of the drainage project, the building of a new clubhouse, and the installation of artificial ice to extend the skating season. The $2.4-million project was entirely financed by the town and Bishop says the town’s finances are in good shape so there will be no massive tax increase to pay for this.
Miriam Wells is chair of the steering committee for this project and says we need to have opportunities for people to be active, and this is an activity for people to be active all winter long. She tells us in the summer the Common will be a lovely place to play and congregate with your children.
The project was not without controversy, however. Rothesay resident Jim Crosby filed an application for a court injuction but that was rejected.
