John Irving is the 2016 Red Triangle Award recipient from the Saint John Regional Y.
Irving is the President of Ocean Capital Investments Limited–owners of Acadia Broadcasting who operate Country 94 and The Wave.
He tells CHSJ News he was surprised by the honour adding the Y should be commended for their work in the community.
He says they do a lot including helping newcomers to Canada learn how to speak English and helping people improve their financial skills.
We asked Irving why he wants to give back and he says it’s about making Saint John better because it’s home.
Craig Bell Estabrooks is the 2016 Leader to Watch.
He works at Port Saint John and volunteers with the Crescent Valley Resource Centre telling us it’s the collective brain power from volunteers that makes things happen.
He says he offers a small piece and others offer something else but when they work together that is when you get the really good ideas and move the organization forward.
In a new twist, The Red Triangle Award and the Leader to Watch Award will be handed out at a celebration at the Y’s new home on Churchill Boulevard this April.
