A new initiative has been launched by Opportunities NB called ONB Connects which aims to bring about economic growth in this province through business and community connections.
This coming soon after word that Repsol has put the Canaport LNG terminal project in Saint John on hold — which is just one economic blow recently dealt to New Brunswick with another being the closure of the Picadilly mine. Opportunities NB CEO Stephen Lund says he’s not going to sugarcoat it — we have a lot of work to do.
“It’s all about being aggressive and being proactive and reaching out, and that’s what we’re doing, that’s what we’re doing. It’s as simple as that,” says Lund. He also notes that growth comes in many ways and that it’s going to take more than one “thing.”
“It’s going to take a combination of a lot of things and a lot of it comes down to the confidence of the business community and the attitude towards growth, says Lund.
Jim Irving, Frank McKenna and Allison McCain are among those who have signed on to become connectors with this program. A connector is defined as someone with a tie to New Brunswick interested in bringing people and ideas together, promoting the province and/or mentoring people.
