Provincial Economic Development Minister Rick Doucet says the Provincial Planning Appeals Board is looking for documents on the proposed Irving Oil headquarters building.
Doucet sees the request as an indication the appeal will be heard quickly and any delay can be laid at the feet of the city.
Common Council is holding a special meeting Monday afternoon at which time the options will be discussed. Doucet says the city should have moved faster.
The proposed Irving Oil headquarters building beside the Imperial Theatre was talked about not only at a rally in King’s Square but also in the legislature.
Saint John Lancaster M-L-A Dorothy Shepherd is prodding cabinet member, Dr. Ed Doherty, the M-L-A for Saint John Harbour to make clear where he stands, saying she doesn’t understand why he’s so noncommittal.
The city’s former heritage planner, Jim Bezanson filed the appeal while claiming he’s not anti-development nor anti-Irving but wants the rules to apply to everyone.
