Henrich and Regina Steeves first arrived in Southeast New Brunswick in 1766 from the United States with their seven sons and settled in Moncton and later Hillsborough.
The German family was quite prolific with thousands of descendants throughout the world and a celebration marking the 250th anniversary of their arrival will be held this summer.
Kerry Rakuson, a spokesperson for Steeves 250, says the big family gathering is set to break a Guiness World Record during one event at the Moncton Coliseum.
“We are going to attempt to dethrone the Gallaghers from it. We want to have the most amount of people in the same room with the same name at the same time,” she notes.
Rakuson says the weeklong celebration from July 22 to 29 will feature parades, picnics and other family activities with a rough estimate of 5,000 people expected.
