The father of two daughters in schools in the Anglophone East District wants better communication from district officials during emergencies.
Troy Mills says even after some information came out from the District and the RCMP it was still unclear to them what was going on.
“We still have questions what exactly caused this,” says Mills. “Was it something that happened within the office of the School District or a specific school, but at the same time my wife was a little bit upset and nervous.”
Mills says he doesn’t believe a lockdown is always the best response, especially if there is a dangerous person loose in a school.
“We don’t know, as parents, what the real problem was, but if it was something within the school and they knew it, then they should evacuate the school obviously over locking them inside,” says Mills.
We asked him if he was concerned about the frequency of which these lockdowns were being called?
“It does seem to be happening more and more often, or maybe we just aren’t aware of it previous times but I think every instance should be taken seriously,” says Mills.
The Office of the Superintendent released a statement to the media, and parents approximately an hour after the threat was received.
No injuries or incidents were reported, and the RCMP are investigating.
