The owner of 17 guinea pigs and 19 husky-mix dogs recently surrendered the animals to the Greater Moncton SPCA due to unexpected life circumstances.
The shelter is now seeking forever homes for the guinea pigs – some of which have already been adopted.
Executive director Dave Rogers says it will take some time before all of the husky-mix dogs can find homes.
“They are going to do health and wellness checks on them. They then have to be temperament tested. We do this with every dog that comes through the SPCA to make sure that they are not going to be a problem in the home,” he notes.
Fortunately, Rogers says they had been speaking to the owner about surrendering the animals so it wasn’t a surprise for the shelter when they arrived last weekend.
