The town of Rothesay and CN have tested how well emergency communication would work should there ever be a derailment or some other incident.
Deputy Mayor Nancy Grant has made rail safety through the town a priority ever since the train disasater in Lac Megantic. Dr. Grant would like to see a risk assessment carried out since rail cars with dangerous goods pass through the town.
She says there’s still more work to be done with one issue being the rail crossing at Kingshurst. Trains can stop there for long periods of time because CN considers it to be private. The town is trying to get it reclassified as a public crossing.
The town has been told there are more than 400 homes that could be cut off and isolated in the event of a rail emergency.
