Renovations are underway to transform the former Moncton Garrison building into the Peter McKee Community Food Centre.
Metro’s other food banks will close over the next month or so and amalgamate into the new food centre.
Food Depot Alimentaire president Dale Hicks says the opening date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
“We think it’s probably going to take a month to do the renovations. So we were originally hoping for the week of May 9th but it may have to get pushed back a week,” he notes.
Open Hands is the first food bank closing at the end of this month and the others will close gradually during May.
The new community food centre has been named in honour of Peter McKee, a well-known priest in the Moncton area who was heavily involved in local charities.
