With about a month having passed since a bomb threat at Forest Hills school on the city’s east side, superintendent for the Anglophone South School District spoke with us about what has been learned from the event.
Zoe Watson says the takeaway is that it’s essential each of the schools have an alternate location and practices going there. She gives kudos to staff and students of Forest Hills for their quick evacuation. She says these are scary situations and notes at Forest Hills they do have a guidance counsellor.
“Some students are scared by situations like that,” says Watson. “And we always hope that nothing will happen but we need to always practice our procedures.”
Watson says they have reminded principals of the importance of parents knowing where a school’s alternate location is and of them always having up to date contact information for the families. All schools in the district have an alternate location.
Sergeant Lori Magee of the Saint John police says no arrests have been made in connection with the bomb threat at the school.
