The Saint John area will be getting national exposure as Quispamsis plays host to the weeklong Telus Cup for the National Midget hockey championship.
The championship game next Sunday afternoon will be televised across the country by TSN and RDS. The Manager of Communications for the town of Quispamsis, Aaron Kennedy says getting to host a tournament of this magnitude takes a lot of time and effort over the last couple of years.
The opening game at the Q-Plex is at noonhour with the Saskatoon Contacts playing the North York Rangers.
The Saint John Vitos are going after their third major championship of the season. They play Dartmouth tonight at 7:30. The two teams recently met for the Atlantic championship which the Vitos won in overtime after tying the game late in the third period.
Kennedy says the tournament will be a big boost for the entire Saint John area economy because, even though the games are being played in Quispamsis, the teams, scouts and hockey officials are staying at the Hilton in the city.
