The Saint John Vitos opened up the Telus Cup with a 5-2 win over Dartmouth. Liam Frigault was named most valuable player on his 18th birthday as he scored a goal and added an assist. Alex LaFreniere also had a goal and an assist while Matt Palmer scored the go ahead goal. The Vitos play Lloydminster tonight. In other play yesterday, the North York Rangers blanked Saskatoon 5-0 and Lac St. Louis got by Lloydminster 3-2.
In the NHL playoffs, Tanner Pearson scored at 3:47 of overtime to give Los Angeles a 2-1 win over San Jose. The Sharks still lead the series 2 games to one…….Alex Ovechkin scored twice in Washington’s 6-1 win over Philadelphia to take a 3 games to nothing lead and it was Minnesota over Dallas 5-3 with the Stars now leading 2 games to one.
In the NBA playoffs, Toronto downed Indiana 98-87 to tie up the series at one game each. Elsewhere, Golden State, without Stephen Curry who was out of the lineup because of an injured ankle, beat Houston 115-106 to take a two games to nothing lead and it was Dallas over Oklahoma City 85-84 to tie up that series at one game each.
In the Majors, the Blue Jays scored 4 runs in the 8th inning for a 4-3 win over Boston and a split of the 4 game series against the Red Sox. J.A. Happ gave up just one run and only 4 hits in 7 plus innings to improve to 2 and 0.
