The St. Andrews Food Bank is well on its way after a brainstorming meeting last night.
Organizer Holly Johnson says over fifty people came to the meeting, everyone is on the same page, and everyone was willing to volunteer.
Organizer Holly Johnson says lots of volunteers came forward, and new Town Councillor Brad Henderson, who also works at Kingsbrae Garden, even offered up some funding, “Brad Henderson was there (the meeting), from Kingsbrae Garden, and he had a conversation he said last night with Mrs. Flamer, who many people know in the community as the garden patron of Kingsbrae Garden. Apparently they had been discussing it, and Mrs. Flamer has been kept up to date with the issue. So there are a couple of different avenues that they are going to tap into for funding, that will help, whether it’s a food bank or a food resource centre, once we have a location, that will help with our power costs for the year.
Johnson says now, their biggest hurdle is to find a location, which in the past, has been an issue. She says the food bank location needs to be easily accessible, as many people who use the services will be without a vehicle, so within walking distance is prefered.
If you have any ideas, or would like to volunteer, you can find updates on the St. Andrews Food Bank Facebook page.
