Six agencies have teamed up to keep watch on rivers for the protecting of the endangered and federally-protected Fundy Atlantic Salmon.
One of them, Crime Stoppers, is asking anyone who sees someone catching the salmon or meddling with their habitat or migration to report it by contacting them either by phone or online. Sergeant Tammy Ward says it’s completely anonymous.
“If somebody knows that their neighbour is doing it, or the camp next door the guys are out there and they shouldn’t be, they can call us without the fear of any repercussions because their identity will never be known to us and it will certainly never be given out,” says Sergeant Tammy Ward.
Crime Stoppers says Fundy National Park and its partners are releasing hundreds of wild Fundy Atlantic Salmon back into native rivers to spawn.
You can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (1-800-222-8477), by texting TIP212 + your message to ‘CRIMES’ (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
