John McGarry has announced he will be stepping down as president and CEO of the Horizon Health Network after more than three years in the position.
McGarry will not be renewing his contract which expires next January. Before taking the position McGarry spent more than 30 years as a senior health care administrator.
A release from Horizon Health says throughout his time as president and CEO he was a strong advocate for changes to the province’s health care system.
“The challenges in health care are enormous, but I believe we have worked together to create a plan for a healthier New Brunswick,” says McGarry.
He points out that 32-percent of hospital bed days between 2001 and 2012 were attributable to smoking, the over consumption of alcohol, poor diets and lack of exercise.
