NB Power will go before the provincial energy and utilities board next month seeking a two percent power rate increase.
The Crown corporation wants to upgrade its infrastructure and expand renewable energy sources.
President/CEO Gaetan Thomas realizes customers don’t like rate hikes but he says it’s necessary to invest in the future.
“What we need to do with our rates is to stabilize them. We want to avoid rate shock. So we would rather go to small increases and being able to have a cleaner grid,” he notes.
Thomas adds the utility has also stepped up its tree trimming program recently and the future of the Mactaquac Dam still has to be decided this fall.
