Congestion earlier this month in the E-R at the Regional Hospital became virtually unmanageable for two or three days.
The President and C-E-O of Horizon Health John McGarry says 26 patients from the E-R were serious enough to be admitted to the hospital but there were no beds available for them. There are more than 400 patients in the Regional Hospital waiting for nursing home beds.
McGarry says this same sort of congestion which can be seen, at least generally, as compromising patient safety has happened at other hospitals as well and will likely occur again at some point in the future.
