The Atlantica Centre For Energy estimates moving away from the use of fossil fuels is a long way down the road. Atlantica’s Colleen Mitchell says we’re talking something like 25 to 30 years.
Mitchell says New Brunswick has made great strides with emissions less than one-tenth those of Ontario and Alberta. Emissions now are at the same level as they were back in 1990. She warns the hard work lies ahead because going forward, those reductions have to be doubled.
Mitchell says the revenue from a carbon tax should be used to find innovative ways to become more energy efficient, otherwise it could wind up crippling the economy.
