Former Mayor Norm McFarlane says Saint John Airport could see half a million passengers a year in 10 to 15 years time.
McFarlane chairs the airport’s Board of Directors and believes it has even more potential.
Last year, the airport exceeded 250,000 passengers for the first time ever.
Interim President and C-E-O Angela McLean says the airport will need $36 million for upgrades in the next few years.
McFarlane says the airport is not asking for anything fancy and meetings thus far with the provincial and federal governments have gone well.
Saint John Airport contributes an estimated $66 million a year to the local economy.
