An impassioned plea for a motion to have better testing for Lyme disease, has been turned down by the Liberals in the New Brunswick Legislature.
Moncton Northwest MLA Ernie Steeves spoke on the motion introduced by MLA Jodi Carr in Fredericton yesterday.
Steeves spoke from a personal experience about his niece, who suffered from an undiagnosed case of lyme disease for several years, “I saw her in a very few months go from a vibrant young woman, to a darkened room, where her body wasn’t functioning and her brain was clouded with unbelievable pain and confusion. For nine years, this young lady struggled with this. She had tests twice in New Brunswick, blood tests that said she didn’t have Lyme disease. They then sent her blood to California, and they confirmed she had Lyme disease. Now she was in big trouble, because Lyme Disease is really hard to take care of once it is set in your body.”
Steeves say the tests in this province for lyme disease are better for dogs than they are for humans.
Instead of approving the motion, the Liberals amended it to say they will develop a strategy on the issue.
