Being four provinces away from your son is hard enough, but for this Moncton, NB family, they’re concerned because their son is is Fort McMurray where wildfires are ravaging the region.
Jo-ann Fahey says she spoke to Patrick briefly last night after he evacuated Timberlea.
She says he packed up as much as he could for himself and his friend Devyn Gould, because they were being forced out
She says he told her it was like a bomb went off, and there was fire everywhere., “He told me they got out onto the highway, and they were about a half hour outside Fort McMurray and it was bumper to bumper, and there were vehicles driving in the ditches to try and get out of town.”
It was an emotional night, waiting to hear. Fahey says she dozed off, and woke up to find she had received a text from her son. It said, “I love you, I don’t know if I will get out of here tonight. I’ll be in touch.” She was relieved to hear from her husband that he had heard from Patrick after that to say they were headed South out of the area.
Jo-ann says the great thing about her son, is when he gets to where he is going, he’ll be able to help others. “That’s just the kind of guy he is,” she notes.
According to a Facebook post from Devyn’s mom, the two of them made it to Edmonton late this morning.
