Port Saint John says several people on the first vessel set to dock here on Monday are dealing with Norovirus.
Monday’s ship, Balmoral, will officially kick off the cruise ship season here in Saint John and is carrying roughly 900 guests on board.
The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating the nature of the illness to reduce the risk to crew and other passengers.
Most recover from the Norovirus, sometimes known as the winter vomiting bug in the UK, within a couple days, but can remain contagious for a couple weeks.
The British-based ship is scheduled to arrive at 10:30 am Monday and leave at 11:00 pm that night, and will be docked at the Diamond Jubilee Cruise Terminal.
63 ships carrying more then 143,000 guests are expected to visit Saint John during the cruise ship season this year.
