City officials have given an update on the boil water order for all users east of Reversing Falls Bridge.
Commissioner of Saint John Water Brent McGovern says the boil water order affects roughly 45,000 people, which represents approximately 60 percent of the city’s customer base.
McGovern says the boil water order likely won’t be lifted before Friday.
He says a power outage early this morning caused a failure in the chlorination system, which prompted the Health Department to issue a boil water order.
McGovern says two consecutive clean water tests are needed before the boil order can be lifted.
Regional Medical Officer of Health Dr. Isaac Sobol says people need to take the boil water seriously, or they might get sick.
Sobol says if the boil water order is ignored, you have a slight risk of getting gastrointestinal illness, which he says could be “quite uncomfortable”.
The Harbourview subdivision in Red Head is not impacted by the boil water order because the residents there are on a seperate well system.
