New Brunswick’s capital city has a new mayor.
Brad Woodside, who is the longest serving mayor of Fredericton, has been defeated by Councillor Mike O’Brien. Woodside was first elected as mayor of the city in 1986 and served five straight terms before resigning in 1999. He then came back as mayor in 2004 and kept the position until his defeat on Monday night.
Meantime, two Kennebecasis Valley communities also have new mayors.
In Quispamsis, incumbent mayor Murray Driscoll was trying to hold onto his seat but was ultimately defeated by Councillor Gary Clark who has been elected mayor. The rest of Quispamsis Council will be comprised of Libby O’Hara as Deputy Mayor, Beth Thompson, Sean Luck, Lisa Loughery, Emil Olsen, Kirk Miller and Pierre Rioux.
In Rothesay, Deputy Mayor Nancy Grant has been chosen as the next mayor of the town beating out Councillor Pat Gallagher Jette. Bill Bishop chose not to reoffer in the election after serving as mayor for 15 years. The rest of Rothsay Council will be made up of Matt Alexander as Deputy Mayor, Miriam Wells, Tiffany Mackay-French, Bill McGuire, Peter Lewis, Grant Brenan and Don Shea.
In Grand Bay-Westfield incumbent mayor Grace Losier has held onto her position defeating Adrian Webb. The Grand Bay-Westfield councillors are Mike Likely, Ryan Snodgrass, Beverley Day, Stephen Evans and John Balemans.
In Hampton, Ken Chorley is back as Mayor after being acclaimed with councillors Robert Doucet, Dwight Bond, Todd Beach and Peter Behr.
In Sussex, Mayor Marc Thorne was also acclaimed. Ralph Carr, Graham Milner, Bridget Ryan, Deborah Armitage, Eric Nelson, Tim Wilson and Jane Boyle make up the rest of toown council.
In Sussex Corner, Mark Knowlton Flewelling was acclaimed as Mayor with Doug Bobbitt, Harley Hunt, Sharon Loder, Catherine MacLeon and Patricia Ann Shay on council.
